Our Team
We work with a diverse community of impact-driven farmers, food makers, and service providers.
Food is a powerful way to tell a story.
In 2010, Narrative Food was founded as a farm-to-table home delivery service in Los Angeles. We worked directly with farmers and makers to share their food and their stories through a thoughtfully curated box of fresh ingredients and recipes every week.
In 2023, we relocated to Deer Isle, an island off the coast of Maine. We developed a new model: curating impact-driven gifts to help organizations tell their story through the power of food. Today, we are proud to bring sustainable, small-batch foods — and the stories behind them — to company stakeholders everywhere.
CEO & Founder
Jennifer Piette (she/her) was inspired to found Narrative Food when she moved to LA after spending 25 years as a screenwriter in Europe — where people have a very different relationship with food. For over a decade, Jennifer's mindfully curated farm boxes and meal plans inspired thousands of SoCal residents to get back in the kitchen and around the table, creating lasting memories one meal at a time.
Though her business model and curated boxes changed post-pandemic, Jennifer's passion for mindfully crafted small-batch foods and her commitment to social and environmental causes have remained the driving forces behind Narrative Food’s unique offerings since day one. Her dedication to supporting small-scale makers and promoting healthy food systems is reflected in everything that we do.
Ever a writer, Jennifer shares her personal story of moving to Deer Isle as well as recipes and meal plans from the Narrative Food archive on her Substack.
Development Director
Born and raised in the corn belt, Hallie Lartius (she/her) believes that food and agriculture are at the heart of every community. She creates, researches, and writes about food with the hope of telling stories and fostering economic development around the world. She currently specializes in food security and the local food system in Maine's islands and coastal communities.
Illustrations
A recent graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, Lily (she/her) has been drawing since the day she could hold a crayon. Also a musician-singer-songwriter, Lily tells stories with images and music just as her mother Jennifer tells stories with words and food. We are so proud of this intergenerational collaboration. @lilypietteart
Over the years, we've built relationships with dozens of amazing food makers from diverse communities. We are proud to support Certified B Corps, women-owned businesses, and small-batch makers dedicated to sustainability.
When Narrative Food relocated to Deer Isle in 2023, we discovered an incredible community of small-scale, impact-driven makers. We were delighted to get to know 44 North Coffee, a beloved women-owned coffee roastery just around the corner from our new home.
44 North Coffee is a local superpower: serving our community with two island cafés, roasting coffee for customers around the world, and sourcing all their beans from Certified B Corp Coop Coffees!
In 2024, we were awarded a Domestic Trade Grant to expand our services with Subscription Boxes, designed to help companies connect with their employees while creating year-round sales for 44 North Coffee and other small-batch makers.
Our boxes are designed to reflect your brand’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) values by promoting community building, small-scale growers, and healthy food systems.
We are proud to partner with the following women-owned companies.
WeTheChange is a powerful network of women and nonbinary CEOs of Certified B Corps and other purpose-driven companies. Formed in 2018, this group has grown into an official network of B Lab, uniting leaders who are dedicated to using business as a force for good.
