Both begin with carefully cultivated beans - coffee grown by farmer cooperatives and cacao from sustainable sources - transformed by small-scale makers into daily moments of joy. From fair trade coffee farms to organic cacao groves, these beans connect communities across continents.

Coffee for Community: This organic, fair trade coffee is named after the Royal Tar circus ship that sank near Deer Isle in 1836. Today, on this same island off the coast of Downeast Maine, neighbors Narrative Food and 44 North Coffee work together to build community locally and support small-scale producers around the world. A woman-owned roastery, 44 North sources these coffee beans from B Corp certified Coop Coffees, supporting farmer-owned cooperatives in Peru (Pangoa), Honduras (COMSA), and Ethiopia (Sidama Union) that invest in community development, education, and sustainable livelihoods. Chocolate for Change: Crafted in collaboration with La Nef Chocolate and featuring sustainably-harvested sea salt from Slack Tide. Just down the bay from our home in Deer Isle, La Nef was founded on Monhegan Island by artists-and-chocolatiers Mandy and Dylan. All of their bars support other makers, farmers, and artists in their community, creating a network of creative collaboration that extends from Maine's islands to cacao farms around the world.
